Today is Australia Day, and while the most appropriate date for Australia Day is still being debated, and not all of us know the second verse of the National Anthem ……
….the good news is…… there’s still a lot of sunshine out there!
Although it is reasonable and important to have debate for change in a democracy….. let’s not forget all the reasons for loving Australia, or where ever you live in the world..
Here are some of my reasons for loving where I live….
The National Library of Australia and a small electric boat that cruises around Lake Burley Griffin almost every day..
The gardens of the National Gallery of Australia. Bronze statue of Penelope (isn’t she grand?) by Emile-Antoine Bourdelle 1912 (cast in 1984 by Susse Foundry Paris )
Looking out from the Australian Parliament House towards Anzac Parade and the Australian War Memorial, on a clear blue day…
A winter’s day in the city of Canberra, statue of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
An autumn day at Lake Tuggeranong, in the suburbs of Canberra
Lake Tuggeranong on a very cold winter’s day for these Buddhist monks from a nearby temple.
A Crimson Rosella eating Peppermint Sage on our deck on an autumn morning..
a golden wattle flower, the floral emblem of Australia.
A Sulphur Crested Cockatoo on his way to Mount Taylor, near where I live..
Kangaroos at sunset on the playing fields at Lake Crackenback
Holidays amongst the Melaleuca trees in Palm Cove, North Queensland.
The Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, with the best food and coffee in the state, thanks to a multicultural community.
St Mary’s by the Sea, a heritage listed non denominational church at Port Douglas, Far North Queensland…
Palm Cove, Far North Queensland….what can I say?
I enjoyed picking a few photos out of so many of this beautiful world…
In the ending words of Desiderata verse
‘“with all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be Careful
Strive to be happy.”
Found in Baltimore 1692..
Do you have a favourite place in your part of the world?

What an inspiring post, so much beauty to be caught up in, your photographs illustrate your theme perfectly.
Thanks Susan, your comments are much appreciated.
Right here where I live in tropical North Queensland is pretty good for me, Geraldine – maybe rivalled by my favourite spaces & places in Africa – especially Victoria Falls. What can I say!
Yes, tropical North Queensland has so much beauty and a healthy life style. Of course Victoria Falls would have a big place in your heart!
Oh, my gosh! Those bird, those flowers, and those kangaroos! You truly live in a beautiful place. And I’m with Susan. Such an inspiring post.
Thanks Laurie, there is a lot of beauty in every day living..
Hi Gerrie, you have reflected this beautiful country so beautifully.
Thanks Ruth, you could add your from Tasmania!
Happy Australia Day, and I’m guessing it is a big celebration because who wouldn’t celebrate living in such a beautiful country. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous photos. But, you knew that I’d get blown away by the Crimson Rosella eating peppermint safe on your deck. Oh my gosh, but that bird is a beauty, and you even had a little church. 🙂 I have to admit I love the mountains, but I being at the ocean the very best. Happy Sunday.
Thanks Judy, yes the Crimson Rosella is a show stopper! And I agree the ocean is hard to beat for relaxing!
I’ve been nudged by my pineapple sage – nearly, lost it – Must Have Water. And maybe a little shade?
Peppermint Sage needs some water, protection from the hot sun, ours has morning sun. Good luck with the drought and water restrictions…I’ve been thinking of you.
What a divine selection of photos. You do live in such a beautiful part of the world. The Melaleuca trees are stunning. I loved the Rosella and cockatoo, your birds fascinate me!xxx
Thanks Dina, the Rosella is a lot easier to live with than the Cockatoo!
You have such a beautiful blog! I haven’t seen many photos of Canberra and had no idea it is such a green place! Thank-you very much for visiting my blog and for the follow.
Thanks Clare, my husband Paul and I have had a few holidays in the UK and I enjoy your beautiful countryside and of course the history that surrounds you. I don’t know much about Suffolk, and I’ll look forward to your posts.
You are rightfully proud of your beautiful country, Gerrie. Thanks for sharing your inspiring photos. Love your very different birds there. 🙂
Thanks Sylvia, and yes the birds are frequently taken for granted, but quite unique!
I can see why Australia means so much to you apart from the fact that it is home. It’s so blue in the first picture such a contrast to our pewter coloured days! Sarah x
Yes, the summer is very bright, with blue skies, but the we have our share of pewter coloured days in winter!
Happy Australia Day! You certainly have much to celebrate. One of these days I will have to make the journey and see some of these wonders.
Thanks Jason, yes I think you and Judy would love Australia.
We are so lucky to live in this glorious part of the world. I love the photos you have chosen
Thank you .. Yes I think sometimes it is easier to look at the negatives rather than the positives of any country.
